CEO, Big Town Concrete – Richard S. Szecsy, PhD., PE, FACI has worked internationally as a technical expert and business development director for a $4B ready mix and aggregate company, a Department Head at a university, a Vice-President and Board member for one of the largest privately held ready-mix concrete and aggregate companies in the US, President & CEO of the largest state aggregate and concrete trade association in the US, COO of one of the largest privately held ready-mix companies in North Texas, Executive Vice-President of Alamo Concrete Products, and is the current CEO for Big Town Concrete in the largest ready-mix market in the US. He served on several state and national committees for ACI, ASCE, and the NRMCA, as well as Boards of Direction for ASTM and TACA. He is currently serving on the ASTM International Board of Directors (2025 to 2028) and sitting Chair of ASTM C9 Concrete and Aggregates (2022 to 2028), and becomes the Chair of the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association (June 2025).
He is widely recognized as a subject matter expert in the areas of concrete technologies, recycled materials, concrete construction, and practical concrete sustainability and resiliency. In 2014 was named one of the most Influential People in the concrete industry by Concrete Producer magazine. He was also named a 2021 Distinguished Alumni for Texas A&M University Department of Civil Engineering.
He has an enormous depth and breadth of experience on operational issues such as mergers & acquisitions, corporate integrations, cost controls, safety, environmental, quality control, engineering, plant design and layout, pricing strategies, marketing strategies, financial assessment and analysis. He frequently gives testimony to various city and county governments and serves as a consistent resource to the State of Texas legislature on a variety of ready-mix issues from tax policy, permitting, and batch plant, quarry, and cement plant production.
He has a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University, a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, and an MBA in Management from Our Lady of the Lake University, and is a registered professional engineer in AZ, AR, CO, GA, IL, LA, MD, NC, OK, TN, TX, UT, SC, OH, WV, and KY.
